Joomla Website Upgrades & Redesigns
Is your old Joomla website becoming difficult to update, maintain or secure?
We help businesses upgrade, migrate and redesign older Joomla websites, including Joomla 3 websites with outdated templates and extensions, while retaining valuable content and functionality.
Your existing website may still provide a strong foundation. We assess what can be retained and what needs to change to make it easier to manage and maintain.

Common Issues with Older Joomla Websites
Older Joomla websites can develop compatibility, performance and maintenance problems that make future upgrades more difficult.
Joomla 3
An unsupported Joomla version.
Outdated Templates
Templates and extensions that no longer work with modern Joomla.
Old PHP Versions
Compatibility and security concerns.
Slow Performance
Long loading times and ageing code.
Poor Mobile Experience
Layouts that are difficult to use on phones.
Difficult Maintenance
Updates and changes becoming increasingly complicated.
Upgrading your Joomla website is an opportunity to do more than fix outdated technology. It is a chance to improve how your website attracts visitors, generates enquiries and supports your customers.
Three Ways We Can Help
The right approach depends on your current website, its template and the extensions it uses.
Joomla Website Upgrade
Upgrade your existing Joomla website where the template and essential extensions still have a workable upgrade path.
We check compatibility and test version changes, retaining the existing design and functionality where practical.
Joomla Migration with a New Template
Keep useful content and functionality with a modern, responsive template that works with current Joomla.
We review navigation, extensions and mobile layouts when the original design framework cannot be retained.
Complete Joomla Website Redesign
A fresh Joomla website that improves usability, performance and design while retaining valuable content.
We rethink navigation and customer journeys, planning for important URLs and required functionality.

Sometimes the Best Joomla Upgrade Includes a New Website Design
Many older Joomla websites use templates, page builders and extensions that are no longer maintained or compatible with modern Joomla versions. Updating the core software alone will not make those tools compatible.
Replacing an obsolete template can be a better long-term solution while keeping useful content, images and business functionality. It also creates an opportunity to simplify navigation, improve mobile usability and make editing easier.
We assess the options before recommending a redesign. If a straightforward upgrade is appropriate, we will say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about Joomla website upgrades, redesigns and our services.
Can Joomla 3 be upgraded to Joomla 5 or Joomla 6?
Often, yes, but it is not a direct one-step update. The established upgrade route moves through compatible intermediate releases: Joomla 3.10 to Joomla 4, then Joomla 4.4 to Joomla 5; moving to Joomla 6 requires preparation on Joomla 5.4. Templates, extensions and hosting must be assessed at each stage. Some sites are better served by transferring content into a fresh Joomla installation. We recommend the target version and approach after reviewing your website.
What if my Joomla template is no longer supported?
The template may need to be replaced. We assess the layout, page builder and extensions it depends on, then plan how suitable content and functionality can be retained within a modern template. You do not automatically need to replace every part of the website.
Will I lose my existing website content?
Useful content can often be retained. We review articles, categories, images, menus and any extension-managed information before agreeing what will transfer. Content stored in an obsolete page builder or custom component may need additional work or a replacement solution.
Will upgrading Joomla affect my Google rankings?
Any substantial website change can affect search visibility, and rankings cannot be guaranteed. We plan for important URLs, page titles, metadata and internal links, check the new site before launch and identify any redirects needed if approved URLs change.
Can the upgrade be completed without taking my existing website offline?
Most development and testing can happen on a separate copy while the existing site remains live. Launch may require a short maintenance window and a final content or order synchronisation. We agree the timing and any downtime requirements before launch.
Do I need to move from Joomla to WordPress?
No. An older Joomla website does not automatically need to change platforms. We assess the features, content, editing needs and long-term maintenance options before recommending whether to stay with Joomla or consider an alternative.
How much does a Joomla website upgrade cost?
The cost depends on the current version, template, extensions, custom features, content and design work required. After assessing your website, we provide a scoped recommendation and quote. We do not assume every website needs a complete redesign.
Can you take over a Joomla website built by another developer?
Yes, we can assess an existing website and discuss taking over its support or redevelopment. We will need access to the website and hosting, along with available licence and ownership information. We confirm compatibility, scope and ongoing support arrangements after that review.

An older Joomla website does not necessarily mean starting from scratch. Let us assess your existing website and discuss the most practical approach.
